"what a sound and what a voice!" - BBC Introducing November 2015

Original song written by Michael Kurtz in June 2015
Recorded in the Summer and Autumn of 2015
Produced by John Joslin in Leicester

Inspired by Percy Shelley's Ozymandias, a poem about a fallen kingdom:

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

lyrics

Lyrics:

There's a hole in the wall,
That you left that day,
I don't mind that you're gone,
No, it's the draft I hate.
But I'm lying to you,
I've forgotten my heart,
Your words were sharp like a shard,
And they tore me apart,
Tore me apart.

But it takes time to forget the rain,
I know I'll find a way to love again.
Carved in stone in some land far away,
Stood me and you, now nothing remains.

I remember the time,
We missed the last train,
Stuck in St. James's square,
In the cold blue rain.
We looked up at the sky,
The moon shone bright red,
Reflects the light from the sun,
That night I miss,
That night I miss.

Ancient civilisations,
Built on love like hers,
But then it was all over,
That's the pharaoh's curse.
Lay to rest in the sand,
Under the seabed,
But you'll always remember,
And I'll never forget,
Never forget.
